Royal Langkawi International Regatta 2026 – Highlight of the day; Turkish Airlines Race Day 5 (Saturday, 24th January)
Overview of Conditions and Racing
The final day of racing at the 22nd Royal Langkawi International Regatta (RLIR) 2026 resumed with prevailing easterly winds up to 20 over knots and better visibility than the day before. Day three’s northeasterly winds carried smoke from fires in Cambodia but shifting due east brought clear air. Principal Race Officer (PRO) Simon James send a message in the Skipper’s whatsapp group alert everyone about changes on Start Boat from Manta Blu to another 15mtrs power cat named Princess Mary. All accessories and flag frames set-up a night before by Race Committee team (Amran’s team). Everyone from competitors to support boat crews looking really excited to finish up the last day -Turkish Airlines Race Day 5. The race day has been address as Turkish Airlines Race Day 5 in appreciation to the main sponsor for their contribution.
 
Race Highlights by Class
Scores here are final results for all five days. Points for prior racing days are not included. Today races 9 and 10 took place inside Kuah Harbour.
 
Racing Class
The Next Factor came back with two first place finishes to triumph over Alive in overall results. Alive had a second place and third place finish which dropped them overall from first to second place by just a single point. Blitz traded second and third with Alive and maintained their third place finish overall.
 
IRC 1 Class
Team Jolt skipper Lee Yi Min notched a 1st place finish and a 3rd place finish to take the day’s lead with 4 points. Mata Hari took a 3rd place and a 2nd place to take 3rd place for the day with 5 points. Char Chan took their 2nd place and a 1st place to take the lead of the day.
 
Overall Char Chan maintains their lead for today race with 3points, keeping a strong lead on Team Jolt at 4points. Mata Hari holds third place after they finish both race today with 5points.
 
PSC IRC 2 Class
Dynamite managed two third place finishes today threatening to lose their first place overall rank, and become 3rd place for today race day ranking. Phoenix took a first and a second place to come close and become 2nd place for today. The Blue Angel traded first and second today with Phoenix to finish 1st place for today ranking.
 
PDRM Sailing Team / Red G finished 4th in race 9 today but was unable to start for race 10 and finishes 4th place for race day 5.
 
Club Class
Wind of Change skipper Igor Ginzburg managed first place finishes in both races today, leaving them first place today. Kesini snagged a seventh and second place today to finish third.

Black Bazza skipper Steve Manning had a strong finish today with second and third place which left the team seventh place overall with a score of 52. Marikh had DNS for both races today and has been unable to start since race 5 (Race Day 3).
 
Sportsboat Class
ATM Sailing Team secured a first and third place finish today and finishes first overall with a total score of 4 for today. RSYC Racing Team finished first but then had a DNF on race two to finish second overall. One of the crew on RSYC Racing team involve with incident tripped on lines and fell down into water that caused injury to his ankle. Paramedic with ambulance bring the crew to Hospital Sultanah Maliha Langkawi to futher check – no major injury detected. Team Beneteau finished two second places today to finish 3rd place for today race day.
 
Multihull Class
Parabellum finished first today but then just 27 seconds behind WOW to finish second. Parabellum takes first place overall with a total score of 15. Haruki finished second and third to come in third place overall with a total score of 19. Wow finished third and then first place to come in third overall at a total score of 20 just one point behind Haruki.
 
Boreas came back after a capsize for two 4th place finishes today and 4th overall at 37 points. Rapido could not finish race 9 and could not start race 10 and finished 5th place overall at 47 points.
 
Multihull Cruising Class
North Star skipper Rob Azzopardi finish 1st to finish race 9 and there was no race 10 as Serendipity was the only boat which could participate. North Star finishes overall second place with a total score of 15.
 
End Race Summary
Turkish Airlines Race Day 5 saw some teams find their groove and show dramatic performance improvements since their early races this week. Teams that consistently delivered performance came out on top and some close finishes and upsets made for great spectating. Tonight the award ceremony will take place at the main stage area beside the pool under yet another perfect sunset and traditional music.
