The Royal Langkawi International Regatta Is Back for the 21st Edition from 20th to 25th January 2025
Langkawi, 13 January 2025 – The curtain-raiser for the international sailing regatta in the South East Asian 2025 calendar is back in Langkawi, from 20th to 25th January 2025. This year marks the 21st edition of the Royal Langkawi International Regatta (RLIR) since its inception in 2003.
The highly anticipated annual event at the Royal Langkawi Yacht Club will welcome 32 sailing yachts from Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, Japan, China, Hong Kong, United Kingdom, Denmark, and Australia, with more than 250 participants. RLIR aims to establish Malaysia and Langkawi as a prominent sailing destination while promoting sailing and boosting sports tourism.
The sailors will compete in 6 classes namely Racing, IRC 1, IRC 2, Multihull, Sports Boat and Club. Winner of each class will be awarded with the following prestigious trophies: Prime Minister’s Challenge Trophy (Racing Class), LADA-IRC Challenge Trophy (IRC 1 Class), PSC-IRC 2 Challenge Trophy (IRC 2 Class), Langkawi Sports Trophy (Sports Boat Class), Malaysia Multihull Challenge Cup (Multihull Class), and RLYC Commodore’s Challenge Cup (Club Class).
Additionally, the esteemed Tunku Abdullah Sportsmanship Award will be presented to the highest-voted individual or team demonstrating exceptional sportsmanship both on and off the water.
