PRESS RELEASE RACE DAY 2

LANGKAWI, 9 JANUARY 2019 – Wind conditions were perfect at 13-16 knots, and Principal Race Officer of the 17th Royal Langkawi International Regatta 2019 Simon James had decided to set up the race course along the east of Langkawi island, as the wind forecast here was ideal.

Sailing teams maneuvered through choppy waters and swells of waves of up to 0.8 meters, as they set sail on the second day of the RLIR 2019.

The first race was flagged off at 9.30am, with the Racing Class being gunned off first. This was followed by IRC 1, IRC 2 and the other classes. RLIR 2019 Day 2 saw a total of 3
races for all classes, except White Sail, which had 2 races.

Along the way until noon, SCS Janda Baik and Uranus under the Racing Class and Allegro under the Multihull Class, retired from their third, second and third races respectively, due to some technical issues.

At the end of the race day, the Racing Class once again saw Team Hollywood leading, followed closely by THA72. The Malaysian teams in the Racing Class, encountered mishaps along the way with damaged sails and penalties imposed upon them.

“Overall, after Day 2 of the RLIR 2019, it is clear which team is leading in their respective classes. We wish them all the best, in particular, for the round the island race which comes
up in the next few days,” said Tayfun Koksal, RLIR 2019 Regatta director.
