RLIR 2015 Sets Sails as Scheduled At RLYC

LANGKAWI, (7 November 2014) – The Royal Langkawi International Regatta (RLIR) 2015 will take place as scheduled from 12 to 17 January 2015, while the earlier planned redevelopment project of the Royal Langkawi Yacht Club (RLYC) has been postponed due to unforeseen circumstances.

The Royal Langkawi Yacht Club (RLYC) has plans to redevelop its club and marina to enhance its facilities and services, to meet the demands of the sailing and yachting community in the region and beyond.

“However, the redevelopment will not take place until after the RLIR 2015 which will proceed as planned. RLYC will provide marina and berthing facilities required for all participating yachts, just as it does every year,” said Executive Director and General Manager, Wicky Sundram.

The Regatta Secretariat and the Race Management office will be based at RLYC. The RLIR 2015 Organisers have issued the RLIR 2015 Notice of Race (RLIR 2015 NOR) via the RLIR website (www.langkawiregatta.com) and preparations are ongoing for race management and other regatta planning matters. All inquiries and registrations for RLIR 2015 can be channeled through the RLIR website.

“With Langkawi having wonderful wind conditions in January, we hope to make this regatta an exciting challenge, while still maintaining our hospitality to all participants,” quoted Tunku Soraya Dakhlah, the Organising Chairperson of RLIR 2015.

Teams participating in the event will be competing for the Prime Minister’s Challenge Trophy – for Racing Class yachts; the Commodore’s Challenge Cup – for participants of club-registered cruisers; the LADA-IRC Challenge Trophy – for participants in the IRC 1 Class; the Langkawi Sports Trophy – for participants in the Sports Boat Class and the Malaysian Multihull Challenge Cup – for participants under the Multihull category.

The Tunku Abdullah Sportsmanship Award, will be presented to the best team, both on water and land, in memory of the late Founding Chairman and the first Commodore of the Royal Langkawi Yacht Club (RLYC), Almarhum Tunku Tan Sri Abdullah Tuanku Abdul Rahman.

The Royal Langkawi International Regatta (RLIR) 2015, is organised by the Royal Langkawi Yacht Club (RLYC) and sanctioned by the ISAF and Malaysian Yachting Association (MYA), and supported by the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Malaysia. The RLIR is part of the Asian Yachting Circuit.
