Quantum Racing Win Prime Minister’s Challenge Trophy

Quantum Racing of Australia emerged champion in the IRC Racing class of the Royal Langkawi International Regatta (RLIR) 2009 held at Royal Langkawi Yacht Club here today.

Quantum Racing collected 15 points from 10 races while Hi Fi of New Zealand had to be satisfied with second place after scoring 21 points.

During the early stage of today’s race, Hi Fi was leading but they slipped to third position on the last race behind Peter Ahern Yo!(Australia).

Quantum Racing’s skipper Ray Roberts noted that this year’s RLIR was among the best regattas the team had ever participated in Asia with great wind conditions.

“Particularly today, we were sailing in 20 knot winds and at some points the wind were gusting up to 30 knots,”

“It made it quite a hard race, a few boats were getting out of control and some near collisions, for us experience and a little bit of adrenalin pumping moments helped us get the job done,” he told reporters.

The Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) Zuhrah, retained their fifth spot today.
