Regatta: Quantum Racing Leads On 3rd Day

Quantum Racing, skippered by Ray Roberts, took the top spot in the IRC Racing class on the third day of the Royal Langkawi International Regatta (RLIR) 2009 at the Royal Langkawi Yacht Club (RLYC), here.

Quantum Racing, from Australia, beat the yacht Hi Fi, from New Zealand, with a time of 4 hours 32 minutes 6 seconds, and yesterday’s leader, Jelik, from Hong Kong, which only managed a third placing today.

Meanwhile, the Royal Malaysian Navy’s (RMN) yacht, the Zurah, was in fifth place, clocking 5 hours 5 minutes 48 seconds. A statement from the organisers, RYLC, said two more races would be added in the class to raise the total to 10 races, with three of them taking place tomorrow.

Meanwhile in the Sportsboat class, the Navi 1 team from the RMN led the challenge after five races.

The team, who were in second place yesterday, beat Longtze 2 Exocet with a time of 4 hours 27 minutes 59 seconds.

Navy 1 skipper, Mohd Masyuri Rahmat said that compared to the four races in the past two days, there were less errors made today and luck was also on the team’s side as they managed to avoid the backwind several times.

“Everything went quite smoothly today and all crew members put up a strong fight,” he said.

He said the team would try to maintain their position to win in the Sportsboat class in the three races to be held tomorrow and on Saturday.
