Regatta 2008 Route Changed Due To Wind Factor

Unfavourable wind conditions have forced the Royal Langkawi International Regatta organisers to change the race route.

“Due to slow wind, we have to change the route to Pulau Dayang Bunting, Pulau Toba and ending at the Kuah jetty”, said Royal Langkawi Yacht Club (RLYC) executive director Wicky Sundram.

The original route was to sail from Kuah jetty to Pulau Dayang Bunting in six hours.

Wicky said Hong Kong yachts Jelik (first runner-up in 2007) and Hi Fi showed good form during the three days of training.

“They will throw a stiff challenge to defending champions Quantum Racing and three-time team champions YO! for the Prime Minister’s Challenge Trophy. Winds of 10 to 12 knots will be suitable for the race,” he said.

Thirty-six entries from 14 countries had been received including from Australia, New Zealand, Britain, Singapore, Thailand, Holland, Germany, France and Malaysia.
