“Jelik” Dominant on First Day
 
Veteran sailor Frank Pong of Hong Kong who skippered “Jelik” stormed into the lead on the first day of the Royal Langkawi International Regatta (RLIR) 2008 at the Royal Langkawi Yacht Club here today.
 
“Wind speeds today at between 16-20 knots were ideal and I am very happy with our performance,” Pong, who is also the owner of the yacht, told reporters after the race.
 
Defending champion “Quantum Racing” of Australia who came in second are expected to give Jelik a tough challenge over the next few days in the racing category.
 
Debutants Zuhal 2 of the Royal Malaysian Navy were the best local finishers, coming in fifth out of eight boats that took part in the same category.
 
Some 36 boats from 14 nations are taking part in the RLIR which will end on Friday.
