Regatta in Langkawi
 
Kuala Lumpur, 20 February 2004 – The Royal Langkawi Yacht Club will play host to an anticipated 55 boats in this year’s BMW Royal Langkawi International Regatta.
 
The regatta has become part of the Asian Regatta Calendar, which includes the prestigious Phuket King’s Cup Regatta and the Singapore Straits Regatta.
 
According to Royal Langkawi Yacht Club’s general manager/director Wicky Sundram, about 55 boats from 12 countries are expected to take part in this year’s regatta.
 
There are various different categories involved in competition. Two main trophies are up for grabs: the Prime Minister’s Challenge Trophy and the Commodore’s Challenge Cup.
 
The former is open to internationally registered boats while club-registered cruisers will compete in the latter category.
 
In addition, the Langkawi Sports Trophy and the Malaysian Multihull Challenge Cup will be presented to winners of the sports boat and multihull categories.
 
The Royal Langkawi International Regatta is the brainchild of Tunku Tan Sri Abdullah Tuanku Abdul Rahman, the Commodore and principal founder member of the RLYC.
