20th RLIR from January 15-20, 2024
Day 3 – 18 January 2024 – Today all boats participated in the very popular ‘Around the Island Courses’ with excellent conditions giving the backdrop for a successful racing day. Favorable winds ranging from 10 to 20 knots enabled some great racing with many boats in the competitive IRC 1 and IRC 2 completing the course with only about sixteen minutes between the first and last competitors. Racing and Multihull classes sailed on Course 22 whilst IRC 1, IRC 2 and Club classes took Course 21. Sports Boat raced in Kuah Harbour.
Here are the results of today’s one-long race:
Nick Burns’ ‘Witchcraft’ seems unbeatable in the Racing class. He has so far won all 6 races including today’s race. The whole Racing class is very consistent with the same order in all 6 races: Witchcraft, The Next Factor, Uranus, and Zuhal.
‘The Blue Angel’ helmed by Jeremy Camps made it again to the top of the list winning 4 out of 5 races over the 3 racing days. Mike Downard’s ‘Piccolo’ came second today.
The ‘RSYC Racing Team’ skippered by Rizal Mahadi bin Sazili is also a steady winner in the Sports Boat class winning both races today and is also the overall top spot owner in this class.
In the Club class, ‘Kimikimi’ helmed by James Duke won today’s race. ‘Marikh’ skippered by Wan Fadli Wan Ahmad performed well today to score a second spot as did the evergreen one hundred years old ‘Eveline’, beautifully sailed by Dato Richard Curtis and his merry crew finishing less than one minute behind in the third spot on corrected time. Keith Miller’s ‘Sade2’ sadly retired early.
The weather and wind conditions together with the very competitive yachts and great crews have made the regatta a very successful and enjoyable event after three top days.
